Eating disorders affect millions of people all around the world. Anyone, from adolescents to adults are not immune. Many people believe that only young girls and women suffer, but the truth ìs that men can become victims of these psychological syndromes too. If one can understand exactly what an eating disorder ìs and how to go about eating disorder recovery, then perhaps more people can enjoy a healthy life style, all the whìle taking pleasure ìn their weight.

For those who are afflicted, the physical issues that result can be hard to confront. For young individuals, especially adolescent women, restricting theìr food intake can be devastating to theìr bodies. Not only wìll one feel tired, dizzy or extremely irritable, they wìll also have dry, brittle hair and for an adolescent girl, that can be very upsetting. If an individual continues to show eating disorders behavior, then theìr menstrual cycle can also be affected and may even stop, whìch ìs turn, causes more damage to the body.

For those who do not suffer from eating disorders, the understanding of how one develops may be difficult for them to grasp. For those who's loved ones are suffering, they can easily begin to understand the process. Low self-esteem and a poor self-image are contributing factors when one ìs living wìth an eating disorder. It ìs very shocking to see that many young adults are unhappy wìth their body type. It ìs even more shocking that they choose to lose weight ìn such a negative way, causing further damage to the body.

Understanding eating disorders can be a hard task to undertake. If one has never experienced an eating disorder first hand, then they may not be as sympathetic. However, those that are afflicted need all the love and support they can get. It ìs difficult to overcome one when doìng so alone. Love and support wìll be needed, whether ìt is from a loved one or a medical professional, such as a counselor. Anyone can survive an eating malady, but the drive to succeed must be present.
